Following an ill-fated record deal with Ruffhouse/Columbia Records,
Gusto decided to break away from a four-man group of M.C.'s to begin a
solo career. He worked with several different producers in order to find
the right sound for his music. After completing a number of projects,
Ray still was not "feelin' the vibe."At the same time, Spits was
building a foundation in a dark and dinghy, 40 bottled, smoke-filled
basement "lab" with a crew of Yonkers and Bronx rappers. Droppin'
freestyles over scratched up instrumentals spun by whoever wanted to
touch the wax, and making home demos with an MS-1 sampler and a 4-track
recorder was how it rolled. He decided it was to take it to another
level and form a group with another Yonkers M.C., a local underground
beat maker from the Bronx, and long time friend Ray Gusto. After six
months, a demo, and a couple of local radio shows, differences separated
the team, hence, the birth of RAW TEXT.RAW TEXT appeared in the October
4th, 1997 broadcast of It's Showtime at the Apollo's Amateur Night
segment on NBC. They not only drew the attention of the 125th Street
audience but also that of Jive Records A&R's. At the same time the duo
also established themselves as members of Af the King's live, eclectic,
hip hop band. Ray Gusto and Anthony Spits feature verses on Af the
King's "Lovely" (ASHA Records), as well as add backing vocals, adlibs
and hooks for Af the King's live performances. Not long after, RAW TEXT
went back to the studio and built an arsenal of tracks to bring to the
table. In March of 1999, TEXT hooked up with INFX Productions and went
on to sign with ASHA Records.

Raw Text is Ray Gusto and Anthony Spits - a New York based Hip-Hop group from the Bronx (Gusto) and Yonkers (Spits). Combining sharp rhyming skills, phat beats and straight up raw talent. Their extreme writing is on display inthe forthcoming CD "Never Judge a Book" mix's straight up Hip-Hop, underlying themes of Latin, Jazz and Funk. Powerful messages over old school beats with a touch of R & B vocals. All original, not sampled and in the vein of Wyclef meets Santana jammin' with the Fugees.
Produced by Roey Shamir and Angela Piva, the record remains street but manages to incorporate live instrumentation over a rugged groove with a unique sense of musicality. Carrying on in the traditions of Hip-Hop as means of communication, Raw Text delivers; relating with the everyday person's experiences.
The first single "My World" is available on MP3.com, the Liquid Audio Network and at www.ASHArecords.com

 LYRICS FOR "MY WORLD"

Verse 1:
Gusto:
Come breathe the elements of my thought processes
And watch signals pass as your mind compresses
Much blesses and caresses from the purest message
Live for life with all its stresses
Consciousness brings this universal optimist
Above them negative vibes that are brought by pessimists
I wrestle this by transmitting counteractions of lyrical offsprings
Mental war then I'm runnin' things
Weak attempts fall short of success
Battle fields I've constructed will leave ya' blisted
And fully destructed
In my world I set the stage and the rules
By creating schools for the fools
The root of power, across hemispheres
Filterin' ya' ears for years the engineers are
Brainstormin' more deadly than El Niño
Stronger than fine vino, the ultimate latino
Que, que
Chorus: (4x crescendo)
It's MY WORLD, we take it by storm
(I'll take it by storm, it's MY WORLD)

Verse 2:
Spits
:
I came ta melt the ice caps, crumble the mountains they sit on
Drink the ocean, leavin' deserts for cats to fish on
I'm on a miss-ion, impossible ta fathom
Compounds ta molecules, elements ta atoms
Random ta pattern, Sir ta Madam, Eve ta Adam
I'll appear in ya dreams and make ya question if ya even had 'em
Wakin' up in cold sweats wit icicles on ya breasts
Rhymes I give ya, make ya shiver, I deliver RAW TEXT
The sun sets, I'm sayin' shit no one gets
If ya give ya mind a rest, the message'll coalesce
Word it's, necessary I vary the corallary
Ta be legendary, and change the coarse of many
By takin' from what's plenty, donatin' ta conversation
Give a proper presentation, 'n fill the mental basin
When all's done and said, I lay my body on the bed
And log the journeys I lead, in my universal head
Chorus: (4x crescendo)
It's MY WORLD, we take it by storm
(I'll take it by storm, it's MY WORLD)

Verse 3:
Spits
:
I'd be quick to pull the plug on the life support
If I knew when I recovered I'd be hunted for sport
Spits, the lyrical, sharp-shootin' imperial
Surprised, 'cuz I'm the color of that milk soakin' ya cereal
Talked all the shit about my rhymes and my flow
Now ya keepin' ya mouth shut like Marcel Marceau
CLOWNS, run ya mouth, I run tracks like Churchill Downs
Fuck wit triple beams, profound, I win Triple Crowns
How simple it sounds, ya never stepped on the field
I played and rock a ring, slept on me for real
I play tennis wit Seal, ball wit Shaquille
While ya home jerkin's off ta Alley McBeal
My brain, stainless steel, son it never corrodes
Sweat drippin' off ya head down the bridge of ya nose
Time ta die, lyrical murder, and you the victim
I'm holdin' up the victory sign like Richard Nixum
Chorus: (4x crescendo)
It's OUR WORLD, we take it by storm
(I'll take it by storm, it's MY WORLD)

 LYRICS FOR "PARADISE"

Verse 1:
Spits:
The rage in the sophisticated mind of I
Feels the force ta get high, ignore what I live by
When I die, who'll be crying near my coffin
I think about this often, wonderin' if it's worth all this talkin'
The bullshit I deal wit, destructs the heart
Ask why did it start,? It's a war turned inta art
My soul ripped apart, the poison dart in my back
That one track mind that threw me way off track
Psychopath, shit just added up like math
If I divide by half, it'll just double, makin' trouble
Above you, the gem watchin' down on my men
Becomin' one wit my pen, printin' the message I send
Chorus: (2x)
Pressure, someone's always out ta test ya
How I can I escape this pressure
Is death the only thing that'll let ya?
Verse 2:
Spits
:
I light the incense, commence ta break down the world
Tough like a diamond, but delicate as a pearl
No girl ta be my wife, just games and I'm a chip
That moves strategically, don't mean ta be but if I
Don't worry 'bout the next man, my TEXT plan'll collapse
Dodgin' executive traps, snappin' when rap cats start stackin' the jacks
I watch now from the roof across the street
Takin' notes so I'll be set when talkin' dollars in the suite
Leather seats recline, "X," the dotted line
Gaze at the skyline as I grind my canines
Price taggin' on my rhymes, but who's countin' out the register?
The man, politicin' like a Senator
And I'm fully prepared ta be the creditor
It's like divin' in a pool of sharks
Starvin' for checks, havin' neglect for the art
Chorus: (2x)
Pressure, someone's always out ta test ya
How I can I escape this pressure
Is death the only thing that'll let ya?
Break:
Gusto:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference
Word!
Verse 3:
Spits
:
In sunkin' states of depression, I invision a Smith-n-Wesson
Barrel ta the temple, cold iron continues pressin'
Second guessin', in a drama like an opera
Catch myself sayin' "That's Life" like Sinatra ("That's Life")
I watched ya rise from the Earth ta the heavens
Learned lessons, but never really got the message
A scholarship for heart, to the school of hard knocks
When I'm down, six in the box, it's my body that rots
RAW souls live forever, remember
Enter ya' life feed life 'til I'm heavenly treasure
And the whole would'll be darker when I die
May say it coulda been, but never say I didn't try
Chorus: (2x)
Pressure, someone's always out ta test ya
How I can I escape this pressure
Is death the only thing that'll let ya?

LYRICS FOR "PAY DUES, MAKE MOVES"
Gusto & Spits
(Back & Forth)
Verse 1:
Pay dues, our shoes walked miles on dirty stages
Spittin' wordy phrases, lyrical skills, from sturdy faces
Trace this from the hills of San Juan to Milan
Artistical bonds tight, before CD-ROM
The calm, before the RAW TEXT verbal monsoons
Becomin' a topic in chat rooms, 'til we lay in pitch black tombs
The track booms, Gusto, the ASR czar
Bringin' it pure TEXT style, so now you know who we are
A far cry from millionaire status, like it matters
We be doin' for the love with or without an apparatus
Goin' all night like Gladys, more irony that Alanis
Always enter from the center, even if ya try to pan us
Left, right, left all ya cats are stuck in awe
Chose to challenge TEXT baby, that's the luck of the draw
R-A-W runnin' away wit the crown
TEXT, on the never-ending quest to lock it down
Chorus:
Check it, RAW TEXT
Pay dues, make moves
On this planet 'til we perfect it
Check it, RAW TEXT
So for cats who wanna try and approach
Prepare your consequence
Verse 2:
College shows, low budget demos, believin' shady cats
Developmental deals wit Ruffhouse, actin' like maniacs
Drank away advances, and chances to be a pioneer
10 G's spent on buying beer, Yo what the fuck was you thinkin'
While I sinkin' in depression, jobless and hard pressed
They said my dreams were far fetched, then I got down wit the Left
South Paws, opened the doors to my profession
Looped samples on an MS-1, and then I blessed 'em
Still sumpthin' was missin', that mental form of speakin'
Put down what I was eatin', called the rugged Puerto Rican
16 bars ta taste, turned dos inta tres
Remember Lefty starved that pit and left if frozen for days
Ah man, ya know I kinda miss that shit
But things change son, now this is our game son
RAW TEXT baby, years in the makin' like an epic
While yall get A's for effort, we do it, now respect it
Chorus:
Check it, RAW TEXT
Pay dues, make moves
On this planet 'til we perfect it
Check it, RAW TEXT
So for cats who wanna try and approach, Prepare your consequence
Verse 3:
We came, we saw, now it's time for us to conquer
Yonkers, N.Y., Boogie Down, spit all up on ya
Blazed music invasion son, reppin' at the Apollo
Ya play us, we sweep like second hands on a Movado
Battled cats at parties, flipped 'em like a fifth of Bacardi
Now suckin' our dick catchin' more balls than Joe Gerardi
Hated hardly, even got love from Steve Harvey
We hungry of here, but now we ain't about to starve be
So let's eat yo, brother we might just have to kill this
Keep the illes, stayin' tight like Tsantilis
And build this, like Af the King, we bring it liver
Peace to INFX, Ro Shamir, Angela Piva
Never judge a book, just because the covers lighter
Always original, and there ain't no others like ya
Despite the talk, we walk the walk, and stand corrected
Payed dues, made moves, on this planet and we perfected it
Chorus:
Check it, RAW TEXT
Pay dues, make moves
On this planet 'til we perfect it
Check it, RAW TEXT
So for cats who wanna try and approach, Prepare your consequence
